Slings
Slings are used to treat certain types of incontinence. They are helpful for stress incontinence or mixed incontinence. To decide if you are a candidate for these surgeries, we will need to do a complete history, physical examination and possibly an urodynamic evaluation.
What are they?
There are many types of slings. Slings are basically a hammock for the urethra. They prevent you from leaking with activity. We will decide which sling is best for your type of incontinence.
Who is a candidate?
Any man or women with incontinence which is caused by any of the following: coughing, laughing, bending or physical activity.
What to expect for surgery
For women, the surgery is typically an outpatient surgical procedure. The procedure takes about 20 minutes in the operating room. Most patients leave the hospital without a catheter.
For men, the surgery typically takes about 1 hour. Depending upon the patient, it can be done as an outpatient or with 1 night in the hospital. Most patients leave the hospital without a catheter.
