Treadmill Training Programs

We provide a treadmill training program (with and without body weight support) in our Outpatient Ortho and Neuro Physical Therapy Departments for patients with lower extremity weakness. Equipment used may include the treadmill alone, or body-weight support using the LiteGait™ or the Lokomat™

Reasons for using treadmill training without support include increasing endurance, walking speed, strength, and safety, as part of a therapeutic gait training program. Reasons for using body weight support with additional equipment versus a treadmill may include taking weight off the patient to decrease pain, to allow the therapist to assist with correcting a walking pattern, to improve walking quality or speed, or to begin treadmill training earlier with patients who may require additional assistance for safety.

We have easy access to the building, with curbside drop-off, extra wheelchairs and scooters available for use at the front entrance. Please note that we require a physician's referral and insurance authorization for Physical Therapy and the treadmill program. For further information or to arrange an appointment, please call 410-448-6421 for patients primarily with neurological diagnoses such as stroke or brain injury or 410-448-6706 for patients primarily with spinal cord injury.
