Slings are used to treat certain types of incontinence. They are helpful for stress incontinence or mixed incontinence. In order to determine if you are a candidate for these surgeries, a Kernan urologist will need to do a complete history, physical examination and, possibly, an urodynamic evaluation.
Although there are many different types, slings are basically a hammock for the urethra. They prevent you from leaking with activity. After a urologist examines you, he or she will decide which sling is best for your type of incontinence.
